De acordo com um cientista e pensador americano, o século 21 pode ser o último para a humanidade tal como a conhecemos. 

Nossas características humanas poderão ser substituídas de uma maneira realmente intrigante.

Seth Shostak, do Instituto SETI (Busca por Inteligência Extraterrestre, na sigla em inglês), localizado em Mountain View, Califórnia, argumenta que três grandes avanços científicos estão a ponto de mudar os seres humanos para sempre.

Shostak diz: “Nós podemos, eventualmente, produzir descendentes que serão tão diferentes de nós, como os cães são dos lobos cinzentos.”

“As alterações aleatórias e ascendentes de nossa espécie, ocasionadas pela evolução darwiniana, darão passo às melhorias dirigidas por futuros engenheiros.”

Shostak acredita que tecnologias como a engenharia genética, a inteligência artificial e as viagens espaciais estão prestes a mudar a raça humana para sempre.

Em um artigo publicado no site do SETI, Shostak argumentou que tecnologias como “bebês projetados" e computadores que se conectam diretamente com mentes humanas serão realidade em breve, e mudarão profundamente a humanidade.

Ele diz: “O desenvolvimento da inteligência artificial geral será certamente o condutor mais dramático da mudança, porque se trata menos de uma questão de melhorar os nossos descendentes e mais de substituí-los por nossos sucessores modificados.”

China: Three vehicles collide in mysterious collision

A video from China has had the internet doing flips after it showed moving vehicles mysteriously stop in their tracks and levitate up before falling back to the ground. The incredible footage looks like a scene from an X-Men movie but what caused these cars to rise up off the road? An earthquake? Aliens? Was it a hoax using camera trickery or was it something altogether something far more simple? The CCTV footage shows an intersection in Xingtai, in southern Hebei province, flowing normally until a minivan that approaches the traffic lights seems to hit some imaginary force field where its rear end is dramatically yanked back up a few feet into the air then flipped backwards onto its side. Two other vehicles at the traffic lights at the same time also were lifted off the road and tossed around like toy cars. Pedestrians at the scene were left mystified but, luckily (or, more surprisingly) nobody involved was injured. Maybe just a little dazed and confused. Levitating cars, solved The baffling footage has since gone viral with the internet offering its share of conspiracy theories but, sorry, there's no X-Files stuff going on here. The police provided a simple explanation as to why the cars suddenly lifted up. If you watch the video you'll see a road sweeper roll into shot on the right-hand side just before the minivan approaches the lights. If you've got a keen eye, on the left of the video a faint black line appears before the incident – this is a thick cable or wire that accidentally got wrapped around one of the road sweeper's brushes, essentially creating a trip wire. So there you have it. A simple explanation but a rather remarkable looking event nonetheless.

Ele diz também que os seres humanos geneticamente modificados não serão apenas uma possibilidade, mas sim uma realidade inevitável.

Shostak diz: "A interação implacável entre a ciência e a tecnologia garante que o conhecimento genômico gerará um número crescente de aplicações. A cura de doenças é uma delas, e obviamente isso é algo desejável. Mas nossos esforços não estarão limitados apenas a curar a nós mesmos; vamos também optar por ser cada vez melhores. Você pode até hesitar em aprovar os bebês projetados, mas manipular geneticamente nossos filhos é algo que desponta no horizonte assim como o sol da manhã.”
